Le sentier des vaincus

Le Sentier des Vaincus is an historical research written by Dimitri Zufferey, historian and journalist. The research will be published in 2024 by Antipodes.

It is currently being adapted into a comic book by myself, with a scenario written by Fréderic Pfyffer and Carole Villiger.

The story presents the impressive journey of a man who was not destined to fight but who finds himself on the roads of Europe. His name is Johann Mayer and he is the grandfather of Dimitri. After a bref period in France, Johann finds himself on the Russian front and faces the atrocities of war. Before the Allied victory, he was in the Czech Republic, escaped a prison camp that was taking him to Russia and walked back to Bavaria. This is one of the first stories written in French that tells the true story of a German soldier and his thoughts during the Nazi period.

ORIGIN OF THE PROJECT

In 2004, Dimitri's grandfather died. He was German.

Dimitri knew that he had served in the German army, which shook Europe between 1939 and 1945. Ten years after his grandfather’s death, he received a small notebook containing his war diary. This was the beginning of his investigation ! By gathering family archives and crossing his grandfather's path with history, he was able to discover what was going on in the head of a soldier who had just devoted six long years of his life to a cause that was not his own and saw the country he was born in collapse.
